In just about a decennium , much of the world has forgotten that film cameras ever even existed . For this week’sShooting Challenge , not only did participants shoot on picture — they used crumby , often expired disposable camera to do it .
Lead Shot
I took a Fujifilm Quicksnap flash 400 apart a little to get to the lens system and shutter , I marry a small piece of string around the shutter so I could have a bulb setting . Put the plastic cover back on and admit some dig outside of my house . I leave to put my motorcycle out , so I decide to take a photograph of it at night . The photograph it around 15 second and I have no cue what the stripe of brightness is .

Pinwheel
I used a DiFox people of colour plus bounty edition “ glad click ” with a 400ASA . When the bright yellow ill fitted cardboard outside was peel off back , it divulge a disposable with Spanish print on it , taped together with gaffer ’s magnetic tape at the corner . Deluxe !
My boyfriend come home with a two pack and the rules of this contest on Friday . I had a killer fistula infection , but there was a squawk ass sundown in progress , so I track down around the terrace in my slippers , mostly taking photos of that . When I determine that I needed a little something extra in there , I pop this pinwheel flower that a guy I influence with give me when boyfriend and I got absorb two weeks ago . I think the sonant focus in the foreground and the puffy ashen sundown clouds in the background make for something kind of magical . Most of my other shots were crap , but I really liked the whole “ I have no idea what I just take ” expression of pip with this little box . I ’ve kind of forgotten what that was like .

It ’s been a few years since I last used film , and predictably , a sight of the pic I took did n’t come out quite as well as I hoped . It ’s odd how you learn to take things for allow when you ’re using digital — thing
which you really ca n’t take for granted when you ’re using film . include illume and making sure your flash is turned on ! I also noticed as I reckon through my picture that some of them came out with a slightly muzzy appearance . I finally settle on a photo I take at the Gallery of Modern Art . The window at the stairwell are painted , and I ’ve always had a thing for taking movie of visible light coming in through stained or otherwise coloured glass . It ’s also probably the sharp of the lot .

Double Exposure
I ’d late found and used up an previous black&white disposable I bump in a box not too long ago , and it reignite my involvement in using something other than digital . So when my swain and I were browse through Gizmodo and saw the hebdomadal competition about disposable cameras , we instantly wanted to get out of our comfort geographical zone and essay our script at it . We buy a two coterie of Fujifilm Quick Snap Flash 35mms and set out looking for ideas . I knew right off that I require to attempt multiple exposure . It accept a few form to finally reckon it out but we got there eventually . After drive photos of random things ( hop they ’d be layer ) , I decided I desire more of a method acting to the chaos . I convinced my boyfriend to be my muse and shot different aspects of him ( his hands , shoulder , implements of war , typeface , feet , and hair ) against a hushed backdrop so the color of his skin would be a meshed focal item . And I ’m pretty well-chosen with how it make out out .

This guessing was unplanned but worked out the best . It was direct through the windshield while sit in a friend ’s car . The blue - touch funnies of Methedrine at the top provide a great faux cross - refined sky . engage
with Fujifilm disposable ( 400 fastness film ) , make grow at Costco while I impulse - buy bulk item I did n’t need , and resize in Photoshop .

WINNER – Fishing Circa 1850
I used a CVS - brand disposable photographic camera with ISO 400 film . ( I looked for one with expired moving-picture show , but their Malcolm stock was all well within expiry . ) As it turn out , the film still had PLENTY of character … I do n’t know if the noise and oversaturation I saw in most of the shot is normal for an inexpensive motion-picture show camera , but I ’m somewhat sure that the gargantuan red smear that ate its way through the final six frames of the roll is not par for the course . After looking through the 27 images I saw a few scene that really play up the lineament of the celluloid , but the image really were n’t all that interesting to me . I had a cracking gibe of a farmer and his daughter gain apple butter over a balefire with a corn field as their backdrop , but there was just something about it that was n’t quite right . The Fannie Merritt Farmer was facing the television camera and smiling . I hate pictures like that . So instead I submitted a motion picture of this guy fly fishing in the Perkiomen Creek . This shot of one of the net six on my roll , which means that there was a gargantuan red / yellow stripes eating over half the frame . With just some work a desaturation I manged to get what I think it a pretty cool silhouette with some 1800 ’s heat and fog in the simulacrum . It kind of remind me of the cover song of a Quran .

Thanks to the 22 participant in this week ’s Shooting Challenge . The disposable camera seems to take photo a lot like those voguish toy Cam , but the barrier to introduction is even lower . I will iterate , if you have n’t pip film in a while — or perhaps if you ’ve never shot picture at all — it ’s a worthwhile employment to grab a 35 mm and try it out , if only for the butterfly you get as you pick up the developed shots , scanning through them for the first time . If nothing else , you ’ll appreciate how much has changed in just a few year . Full - size photoson flickr . verandah below .
