Instead of focusing onthe likely dearth of new appearance to offer us sci - fi thrills , we ’re call on our attention to the shows that do n’t call themselves sci - fi , but sort of are . Here’re some of our favorites .

House

We take it ; we think that this show is already sci - fi . We ’ve had to repair to trusting the writers – andPolite Dissent ’s Dr. Scott – that everything they name on the show is real , because our cognition of aesculapian science is practically non - existent . But House offers everything we need in a television show : snark , easy lay opera and drive in - up fiber . It ’s only one small step for military personnel away from being Battlestar Galactica ! And that ’s before you get to the illnesses of the workweek and the queer , convoluted explanations behind them . Science fiction - ish , at least .
osseous tissue
Put aside the same - quasi science that House employs ( Seriously , they could be making up everything on this show and we would n’t sleep together ) and there ’s still a compelling ground why this show should be classify as sci - fi : They have their own holodeck . We ’ll letSlateexplain it :

Angela is responsible for design the single goofiest bit of faux - scientific technology I ’ve seen on TV : a 3D hologram program that project not only the revolving image of a reconstructed dupe , but the potential scenarios of the killing , onto an ultra - bang-up light table in the soaringly modern digs of the Jeffersonian Institution . Why these renderings ca n’t be done on a regular reckoner screen , or adumbrate on a cocktail napkin , is never clean-cut , but they front nerveless as hell .
Yes . Yes , they do … And that one piece of equipment – commingle with the idiotic inventions and experiments at times carried out in the name of science , and wholescale embrace of nerditry in universal – is enough for us to claim this as Stealth Sci - Fi .
Numb3rs

It ’s not enough that mathematical genius Charlie Eppes does study for NASA , or that fibre disappear because they ’re going off to pass six months on a place place ? Okay , maybe not – although , really , writing someone out because they ’re going to spend time on a space place is pretty awe-inspiring – but what other show hire substantial mathematicians to work out the complex number - cranch necessary to explain each installment ’s deus ex chalkboard ? It may not be aphrodisiacal , it may not have prison term - change of location or elephantine lusus naturae assail Rob Morrow , but still ; we ’re call this one some variety of science fiction .
24
With nuclear bombs , weaponized viruses , computer hacker taking down the state ’s infrastructure and whatever else Jack Bauer find oneself himself involved in on an one-year basis , 24 ’s world is decidedly a parallel Earth with more than its fair share of super - science going on . Add to that the seemingly superhuman Bauer himself – a man who can shake off off a diacetylmorphine habituation by will mogul alone , and who is n’t afraid to bite out a adult male ’s jugular nervure if necessary – and we ’re positive that this show is at least as sci - fi as Jericho … and also needs to crossover with Fringe immediately .

Top Chef
Everytime someone utter about “ molecular gastronomy , ” it ’s open that Bravo ’s foodie companion to Project Runway has some out of sight roots in skill fiction . avowedly , very hidden , but we all have intercourse it ’s there . Plus , come on . Padma ’s definitely a Terminator . you may see it in her insensate , steely stare whenever she tell someone to load down their knives and leave .
