“ There ’s more specie here than most other places , and a lot of the species that we find here are what we call sensitive mintage , ” Wagner told the AP . “ They are specie that are not very broad of matter like pollution , high disturbance and thing of that nature . ”
The bottom - dwelling Pearl River darter is protect under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 . The animal measure about 2.5 inches ( 6.35 centimeters ) long , though some anhinga raise up to 9 column inch ( 23 cm ) long . In 2021 , the service proposed over 500 miles ( 805 kilometers ) of river in Mississippi as vital habitat for the fish , to ensure its recovery and , with any portion , its removal from the Endangered Species List . Critical home ground is the geographic area earmarked for the species ’ eventual footprint . The rule establish critical home ground along the waterways—494 stat mi of it in the Pascagoula drain organisation and 30 naut mi of it in the nearby Strong River — snuff it into burden May 8 , 2023 .
