Cuban officials this calendar week denote they ’ve launched their own variant of Linux . Dubbed Nova , it ’s an attempt to disembarrass their computers of U.S. hegemony , a.k.a . Microsoft . Viva la ( open author ) revolucion , siempre !
The Cuban regime feels that Windows is not only a symbol of U.S. hegemonic formula , but they think the U.S. government has access code to Windows ’ reference codification and could expend it against the Caribbean island . Plus it ’s hard for Cubans to incur and update their Windows package since like , you know , that whole trade trade stoppage nonsense pull in it really , really unmanageable to BUY it .
But it is telling that 20 % of the Cuba ’s computer drug user are already running some form of Linux on their computers . Bravo , I say . Bravo . [ Reuters ]
