We ’ve all been quiet — or loudly — hoping that our townsfolk would be the next to get Google ’s speedy fibre . In the teensy-weensy minute of the morning , Googleannounced the next lucky city . And then straightaway took it back .

As cover by Engadget , Google ’s Fiber sitestarted displaying a banner congratulating Austin , Texas as home to the newest fiberhood , an announcement which would delineate up withother rumors that have been swirling . The announcement post read up around 3AM though , was author by “ SoAndSo ” and contained no text . Not too official .

The post has since been removed , with the Googster ’s April Fool ’s joke from earlier this calendar week regenerate its spot at the top of the blog . Unless Google decides to fess up to the truth , we ’ll have to wait until it ’s deep Austin - base meeting on April 9th .
