Last night ’s fourth season premiere sent our heroes back to the founding of their little townsfolk . Though the episode never quite delivered on the hope of 40s - epoch excitation , their meter travel misadventure delivered a season - altering gimmick of utterly epic proportions .
First of all , a quick disclaimer . This is my first time recapping Eureka … or watch it , for that matter . But I ’m working through theEureka Essentials Packthe show ’s writers have put up on iTunes . So please deliver with me for a little second if I ’m not amply up to speed .
I know Eureka is a proudly continuity - light show and does n’t really do master copy - patch and extensive arcs , but man … last night really , really felt like it was primarily concerned with mark up the show ’s new clock time - travel - interpolate status quo . As an isolated installment , I was n’t all that impressed with what was on offer . The battle felt undercooked – the military guy is an cocksucker who thinks our fighter are spies , but so what ? Having such an obviously powerful figure as Dr. Trevor Grant ( more on him in a moment ) on their side made it feel as though no one was in any serious danger , and it definitely did n’t facilitate that the rules and outcome of their sentence locomotion were n’t clearly define .

I struggled to sort out why these five fictitious character had been transport back and why they needed to get back in the have time - physique – when that ’s the central conflict of the instalment , these points could have been sharpened and better communicate .
Also , a spate of this installment felt perfunctory , and if I was asked to judge this episode in isolation I in all probability would n’t be particularly interested in coming back to the show . But that ’s just it – I can not await to see what bechance next , because the punchline to everything that happened was so practiced . The five fourth dimension - travelers give to a world that is n’t quite their own : Tess has remain in Eureka and go in with Jack , Henry is now married , Jo discovers Zane is unreformed and still rotting in her jail mobile phone , Fargo is … well , I imagine something could be dissimilar for Fargo , but we have n’t seen it yet . ( Unless he ’s really emotionally invested in whether that Archimedes statue is granite or bronze . ) Most intriguingly , Allison ’s son Kevin is no longer autistic , which is a passably ballsy move for the show and will hopefully provide some seriously heart - wrick conflict when it inevitably comes time to undo the change .
But even all of that require second office to the veridical earth - shattering modification this installment has work . Dr. Trevor Grant by chance came along for the ride to 2010 , and it looks like he ’s here to stay . Why am I so delirious about this ? People , he ’s Gaius Frakking Baltar ! ( I promise I ’ll barricade introducing him like this . possibly . ) James Callis is rock an absolutely fascinating American stress in the role , and I ’m still not certain what to make of this . It ’s in reality not quite as awful as I thought it was based on some of the prevue clips , but it still sounds less like a lifelike dialect and more like a talented actor trying very , very voiceless to pull off a decent American accent . Worryingly , his natural English accent tended to slip out when he was acting more naturally , so there ’s some risk that his performance is always going to be a little stilted . That said , he was still a wad of fun to watch , and I ca n’t expect to see what he does in 2010 .

I ’d be remiss if I did n’t differentiate you about the salutary part of the episode . Actually , you get it on what ? I ’ll do well than secern you – I ’ll show you . Ladies and gentleman , I go out you with … the Fargonator .
