In 1909 , moneyed French banker Albert Kahn set out to create “ a photographic inventory of human life on Earth . ” His teams took 72,000 autochrome exposure in over 50 countries , comprising the largest collection of early color photography in existence .
In addition to the 72,000 still photos they collected , Kahn ’s teams amassed over 100 hours of film over the course of the project ’s 22 year continuance .
