At some gunpoint or another , we were all sting by the Star Wars microbe — er — sandflea . We were drop back to a theatre by a nerveless uncle , pass on an N64 comptroller to play Star Wars Episode I : Pod Racer ( permit ’s be tolerant to those whose first picture may not have been the original trilogy ) , or just catch a endurance contest over Thanksgiving weekend .
For me , it came in the flesh of a very lifelikeanimatronic Darth Vader coin bank(or at least it mat lifelike to my childhood wonder ) . I can still see the gears scranch as he turn on his pedestal , swing his lightsaber each time I dropped a coin in ( my brother and I put a lot of coins in ) . I can hear the slightly tinny version of the Imperial March play , giving way to a few classic Vader breaths , before James Earl Jones intones “ Impressive , most telling , but you are not a Jedi yet . ”
And since then , I ’ve been hooked .

To this day , I will always associate The Empire Strikes Back with slices of pumpkin Proto-Indo European .
Juan — I honestly do n’t love for trusted . I do remember I saw part of ESB at school ( back in 95 or so , I was 8) and I was frightened cause I only saw luke cut vader ’s head . Few long time later I borrow the special edition from a protagonist and I see them all … I remember I was frightened of violent storm troopers lol . in any case , I was totally hooked from then on . I remember an uncle of mine would share some floppy disks with behind the scene photos of TPM and I was amazed . TPM was the first SW I saw in a theater though and I greatly savour it . The sleep is just history , but in short , few thing have prompt my imagination in so many direction as Star Wars . I hope it never terminate .
Eric — My first introduction to Star Wars was play the original 10 - wing microcomputer biz on my first figurer in 1994 ( I was in 5th grade ) . After that started arrive the toys here and there , with our backyard a perfect bandstand in for Tatooine .
Fiona — In 2003 I was a sheltered , homeschooled 10 year old who was not allowed to follow much sci - fi and illusion on the undercoat that it was “ too tearing . ” At the time I was best champion with a son who lived up the street , and when I told him I ’d never examine a Star Wars flick he and his dad made me ride down and watch The Phantom Menace with them . I was hooked after that . My parent gave in and lease the originals so we could watch them together , I in reality had reservations about the OT before seeing them because they looked so “ old ” compare to the shining prequels but as soon as I run across Princess Leia taking control of her own deliverance I was like … maybe these movies are better . After that I was whole ghost and remain so to this daylight . I got the purple ForceFX lightsaber for Christmas that year because I wanted to be Mace Windu ’s Padawan and I ’d have it away to say I still have it but I SOLD IT like a fall guy
Nate — First movie I have any real memory of . Apparently first saw ANH when I was 3 . I remember when they did the re - acquittance in the later 90 . My momma said it was demand view seeing them in theatre and let me skim school day the day they came out lol . Favorite memory though would be earlier this year going to Celebration with my baby , being in the room for the 40th anniversary and TLJ panel . flick changed my aliveness in more ways than one .
Jamie — During the early-90s , my parent rented A New Hope for me and threw it on . I ’ll admit , like some of you have , it did not instantly knock off me . I was probably too youthful , and those introductory scenes ( which I now love ) on Tatooine just did n’t hold my attention .
A year or two later , I got all three for Christmas on VHS . I do n’t remember ask for them , maybe some uncle of mine had hope he could swing me after my initial fail innovation . I do n’t know what changed about me , maybe nothing , but I just remember going to the basement of my grandparent ’s house that Christmas aurora after generate them , as my intact class delay upstairs to proceed the holiday festivity . I did not come back upstairs until dinner party . I watched them all in a run-in without break , and to this day I can not pinpoint a undivided consequence , like some of you have , that swayed me . Was it the deep run on the Death Star ? The walkers battling nose candy speeders on Hoth ? The climactic , emotional battle on Cloud City ? The glorious final space battle above Endor ? The Emperor ’s iconic cackle ? I ’m still not trusted . All I know is when I attend back , it was after that day , I was hook .
