We ’ve seen the first three episodes of Syfy ’s Americanized Being Human serial ( a drama about a lamia , werewolf and touch roommates ) . This thing has a serious shot at becoming Syfy ’s next hit , if they can fix a few problem .
Here ’s the basic premise . A wolfman , vampire and a ghost all share an flat . The werewolf and the lamia screw each other from work ( the vampire is a nurse and the masher is an orderly ) , while the ghost is haunt their new flat . The rest is all drama — good play , but heaps and heaps of “ When will our heroes get a breaking ? ” variety of drama . But then again , should they ? After all they are “ fiend ” and experience the need to remind themselves of this fact in just about every episode . But more on the plot line later on – allow ’s get to the good .
The Good:
The Script :
The best part about this series is the script . It ’s fresh , it ’s tight , and it keeps the vitality high and the melodrama moving . It ’s just the kind of writing style to make a paranormal play tale palatable for all those not fully attached to the music genre . You do n’t have to live up to the ( unjust ) stereotype surrounding True Blood , Twilight and Vampire Diaries lover to love this show in one way or another . That is , if you like clever dialog .
A lot of the back and forth between male leads Sam Witwer and Sam Huntington is pulled directly from the same snarky pilothouse as Supernatural . This should n’t surprise us too much , as Supernatural author Jeremy Carver and Anna Frickle ( from the under comprehended Privileged series ) are both exec producers and author of the Americanized series .

Even humor aside , the book has bite . The episodic situation needed to propel a hebdomadary television serial remain engaging , and are anything but predictable ( something many starting out TV shows faltering with ) . Even though I ’ve watched the original BBC version , I was still surprised with a few gimmick and turns here and there . Fingers crossed the Americanized version will happen its own itinerary eventually and become the next Office of UK TV adaptations .
The Cast :
The second best affair about this series is the cast . Give this casting director anything they want , because they nailed it . Just complete it . You all have a go at it my affinity for the smoulder hot Sam Witwer and his striking , at times self - pitying monologue as The Secret Apprentice , Doomsday or BSG ’s Crashdown . While I know this actor is no stranger to sexy , caput - down - centre - raised melodrama , could he pull off a well - round out persona ( rent alone a vampire ) ? Yes . 1,000 times yes , and his fantastic ab are hardly rive any of the weight . I was dismayed and astounded at Witwer ’s range . Even more so how well he and the werewolf , Huntington , play off one another . Their alchemy was instantaneous , and their comic timing was flawless . You could watch the pilot just for the facial expressions these two throw back and forth at each other , and stay completely diverted .

Huntington is also delicious in his own ball up nerd way , flopping about down the hospital hall like a baby pup tripping over his own jumbo paws . The moral force between the walking headshot Witwer and the forever humiliated Huntington is priceless . I do n’t eff how they found this great connecter , but I in truth hope it lasts the entire time of year . It ’s thrilling to ascertain .
And I ’m not even done complimenting the cast – Meaghan Rath , the lost touch girl , is charming . woefully , she still has n’t see her dapple in the radical just yet , but hopefully her other two paranormal roommate will facilitate her along ( more on that later ) . eventually , the big vampire baddie , Bishop , is played by the one , the only , Mark Pellegrino . Or , as you know him , Jacob from Lost . walk the line between friend and enemy , Pellegrino kill it .
The Bad:
The Production
I was pass on three unfinished episode to retrospect , so I ’m going to keep this scant , since FX still postulate to be added , the euphony was filler , and presumably a wad had to yet to be pluck and edited .
BUT . One glaring affair that could make or ruin this serial publication is the “ Syfy face ” that start out to grovel into the production in the episodes after the pilot . There are tons of tight scene ( so much so you forget where you are at times ) , include some slightly wobbly tight shots . And tons of remaining “ framed through some obstruction ” shots . It felt a lot like SGU ’s television camera work all over again . yield it was by no means that shaky , but some of the tighter moments were clash by modest shakes for no reason at all . This could all be drowned out by the former FX and thing that still need to be added , so again , I ’m hesitant to advert it . But , at time it was a bit jarring and made the production experience like just that , a video set yield . Every odd photographic camera trick only made the hardening feel less like an apartment and more like a profound stage . finger crossbreed the finalized version will set all of this right .

Sally
While the actress who play Sally , Rath , is beyond delightful on screen and has altogether dominate the kinky girlie spirit part to her character , I ’m still wait to get the feeling of absolute weakness from her . Both wolf and lamia exude a sense of hopelessness . In the beginning of the serial the audience literally watch both man bottom out , while dealing with their “ status . ” grant , Sally ’s fictitious character still has a way to go before she bottom out , but I ’m still having a knockout time connecting with this fussy persona ’s struggle and sadness . Hopefully , the chemistry between wolf and lamia will eventually lasso in the ghost , because if these three ca n’t work together , that could be a immense issue . The best part of the BBC series is the electric connection between the monotonic - first mate . get ’s hope they can find it here as well .
The Verdict:
All in all , there were enough homage to the original to make me palpate like they were respecting the source material , and enough deviation to add a footling spice . Witwer has proven that not only is he a sexy slice of sweater meat , he ’s also a slap-up histrion . The chemical science between Witwer and Huntington should sell just about anyone on this series , and hopefully in the future , the trio of ghost , lamia and lycanthrope will mousse even more . I like what I see , a lot . And I think to watch out the hell out of this show .
