Wendy Williamshas been throwing herself into her work sincefiling for divorceearlier this month.
A source tells PEOPLE that Williams, 54, has “actually been in really good spirits” since calling it quits with husbandKevin Hunterafter over two decades of marriage.
“She’s taking over her empire,” the source explains. “She was kept out of the loop a lot. Wendy’s an executive producer on the show as well, but she’s the talent. Kevin was the one doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff and being a go-between for her and the show.”
“It wasn’t like people kept her in the dark on purpose, she just never asked,” adds the source.

Williams filed for divorce after Hunter allegedlyfathered a child with his mistress. Hunterbroke his silenceon the split in a statement to PEOPLE last week, addressing the cheating scandal and admitting he was “not proud of my recent actions.”
“I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs,” he said. “No matter what the outcome is or what the future holds, we are still The Hunter Family and I will continue to work with and fully support my wife in this business and through any and all obstacles she may face living her new life of sobriety, while I also work on mine.”
According to the source, Hunter “realizes he really messed up.”
“He’s taken a very somber position and is just trying to focus on what’s next,” the source says. “Initially when he and Wendy decided to split they had agreed that he could stay on as her manager. Then she saw new pictures of him out with the mistress again and she cut him completely off, shut down accounts, everything.”
According to the source, they’ve “had zero contact” since and Williams “has nothing to say to him.”
Williams “became tearful” when asked if there was any truth to the poisoning claim but ultimately denied any poisoning had occurred, according to the police report. The officers left after Williams assured them she was safe.
And Williams revealed on-air last month that she had beenliving in a sober house. (She’s been open about a past addiction to cocaine.)
Last week, she said she would “moving out of the sober house in just a few days” andalluded to the divorce, saying she has a “whole new life” planned for her and her son.
